Chery unveiled its Volt-dragon charger, a 1.44 MW peak-power charging system that it says adds 500 km of range in 5 minutes and charges from 10% to 97% in 6 minutes 50 seconds, according to CarNewsChina and Electrek on Oct. 22.
The carmaker announced the system at its Global Innovation Conference, alongside an AI model called CheryMind. Chery has not said which vehicle or battery the 500 km figure applies to, and it has not published results for very cold or very hot weather. It did say 500 km in 8 minutes is achievable in "conservative scenarios".

Chery claims 6:50 for 10-97%, behind CATL's 6:27 for 10-98%; the charge windows differ, so the gap is indicative.

On CarNewsChina's tally, the 6 minute 50 second time makes Chery the runner-up in China's megawatt charging race. CATL's third-generation Shenxing battery holds the record at 6 minutes 27 seconds for 10% to 98%, and BYD, Huawei and Geely all quote 8 to 9 minutes for 10% to 97% or 98%. The start and end points differ slightly between vendors, so the gaps are indicative, not a like-for-like test. All of the figures are vendor claims.
