Where the news comes from

A Render worker reads these feeds, archives each scan in Supabase Storage, and files the headlines in the database. The newsroom reads that inbox. The front page publishes original articles only.

Why rss-parser

Most news APIs want a key, a quota, and a bill. RSS is the publisher's own distribution channel. rss-parser reads that XML with one dependency. The scan runs on Render, because Vercel does not keep a long-running process. Supabase holds the database rows and the stored snapshots. Without those keys, the same scan writes a local mirror so the newsroom can be tried on this machine.

rss-parser
In use
A small MIT-licensed Node library. It turns RSS and Atom text into objects. Voltgrid News downloads the XML itself and leaves parsing to this library.

Hacker News Algolia
In use
A search API that needs no key. It adds chip-power and battery headlines from the community agenda that RSS misses.
Open repository
RSSHub
Not used
A strong open-source generator for sites without a feed. It wants its own service and constant upkeep, which is more than this desk needs.
Open repository
Miniflux
Not used
A mature reader, but it wants PostgreSQL and a long-running process. That does not fit a serverless deploy.

feed-aggregator-ts
Not used
A TypeScript aggregator that runs as a CLI against PostgreSQL. Voltgrid News caches the desk at request time.

Connected feeds

A new source is one record in src/lib/sources.ts. On broad sites, raise minScore so a gaming-mouse discount never lands on the desk.
