Tesla and SpaceX are in talks with about 10 South Korean materials, components and equipment suppliers for Terafab, their planned chip fab in Grimes County, Texas, according to an exclusive report from Korean trade outlet The Elec dated Oct. 20.
Several of the companies have already signed nondisclosure agreements and moved to discussions over specific products, The Elec said. Talks span process chemicals, piping and valves, wastewater recycling equipment, cleaning services, environmental equipment such as scrubbers, and semiconductor test components. Until now, only HPSP and Hanmi Semiconductor had been publicly linked to the project.
Where the Talks With Korean Suppliers Stand
Terafab representatives from both Tesla and SpaceX visited booths run by roughly 10 Korean companies on the opening morning of SEMICON West 2026, held Oct. 13 to 15 in San Francisco, The Elec reported. The list included ENF Technology, Dongjin Semichem, Asflow, BMT, GnG Intech, Unisem, MiCo and Hanmi Semiconductor. The outlet said many of the conversations had been running for months.
The only firm commitment in the report is from HPSP, which has agreed to supply one high-pressure hydrogen annealing system for Terafab's research and development line. Hanmi is discussing thermocompression bonders. ISC has reached the stage of swapping samples and design information on silicone rubber test sockets. Dongjin Semichem has been in talks with Tesla for two to three months, centered on a thinner production plant in Texas.
