AlphaESS Finishes 60 MW / 120 MWh Jonava BESS for Lithuania
AlphaESS says production of the Jonava battery for Lithuania is complete and the Aster 5000 containers are ready to ship, with a 110 kV grid link, but no owner or start date is named.

AlphaESS said on Oct. 28 that it has completed production of a 60 MW / 120 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Jonava site in central Lithuania, and that the containers are ready for shipment. The company announced the milestone in a press release published by ESS News. The battery is a two-hour system: 120 MWh of energy at 60 MW of power.
AlphaESS supplies its Aster 5000 utility-scale BESS containers, and the general contractor is UB Solar. UB Solar visited AlphaESS's headquarters and manufacturing facilities, toured the production lines and attended a shipment ceremony, the release said. Power Electronics supplies the power conversion system and the medium-voltage skid, and UAB TSPI supplies the power plant controller, which AlphaESS describes as fully compliant with grid codes.
Grid connection and revenue plan

The 60 MW / 120 MWh system is to connect to the 110 kV grid, according to AlphaESS (vendor claims).

The system will connect to the 110 kV grid, with the connection coordinated with Litgrid, Lithuania's transmission system operator, according to the release. AlphaESS lists three uses: balancing services, non-frequency ancillary services and flexibility services to Litgrid. The battery is also meant to qualify for Lithuania's balancing capacity and ancillary service markets and to trade energy through the day-ahead and intraday markets on Nord Pool.
For Lithuania's grid, the plan to sell balancing and flexibility services to the transmission operator is the consequence to watch: it would add 60 MW of storage dispatchable into those markets once it is energised. AlphaESS itself says the national BESS market is entering a period of rapid scale-up, tied to the country's energy independence roadmap and integration with the Continental European grid.
What is not confirmed yet
The release does not name the project owner or end customer, only the contractor. It gives no shipment date, delivery schedule, commissioning date or operational start. It also does not state the cell chemistry or cell supplier, the project cost or how it is financed. Every figure above is the vendor's own, and none has been confirmed by Litgrid or the owner.
Do not confuse this project with the Jonava plan in LG Energy Solution's memorandum with Energix. As Voltgrid reported, that Jonava project is about 320 MWh, according to The Elec, and the sources read do not link it to the AlphaESS system.
