Beaver County, Utah, October 12 — Fervo Energy has started commercial power sales from the first 33MW unit of its Cape Station enhanced geothermal plant, supplying carbon-free electricity to retail provider Shell Energy.
Cape Station is the first utility-scale next-generation geothermal plant to reach this point anywhere. Fervo creates its own reservoir in hot, dry rock using oil and gas drilling methods, instead of relying on natural hot water or steam.
