NVIDIA chief executive Jensen Huang said on October 22 that he told neocloud Nscale to "work around the clock" to overcome problems bringing some of its data centers online, Bloomberg reported from the company's GTC conference in Berlin.
Huang recalled the exchange at a press conference: "Come, you guys, do a good job, work around the clock." He added, "That was it." Nscale did not immediately respond to Bloomberg's request for comment. Bloomberg describes NVIDIA as a backer of Nscale, and the chipmaker also supplies the GPUs that fill neocloud sites.
Bloomberg says Nscale has been grappling with delays, equipment failures and power constraints at some of its data center sites, as well as investor pushback over a $30 billion IPO valuation target. The outlet frames Huang's remarks as an effort to restore confidence in a sector that has lost some of its shine in recent weeks.
Huang said neoclouds are building some of the largest and most complex computing systems in the world while dealing with construction, supply-chain and delivery challenges. Historically, he said, infrastructure companies could take three years to build a data center. "Now, if you don't get it up and running in six months, everybody's up in arms."
Huang said data centers could once take 3 years to build and that now, if one is not running in 6 months, everybody is up in arms, per Bloomberg.

That compression matters for power planning. A site that is late on its grid connection cannot absorb the GPUs ordered for it, which leaves hardware and financing costs running with no revenue. As Voltgrid reported, Microsoft dropped a 50 MW Nscale site in Essex after grid officials signalled power would not arrive until the 2030s. That is a separate matter from Huang's comments, and Bloomberg's report does not tie his remarks to any single Nscale site.
Huang said he is "quite confident" neoclouds will find solutions, because they have excellent customers, demand is high, and "they just need working capital." He made a similar point in a CNBC interview the same day, as Voltgrid reported.
Bloomberg cites two other recent stumbles among NVIDIA-backed neoclouds. Australia's Firmus Grid abandoned its planned IPO, and South Korea's Elice had a difficult trading debut. Voltgrid has covered Firmus's shelved listing and Elice's debut.
At the same Berlin event NVIDIA unveiled the DSX Pod, which Bloomberg describes as a mini data center in a container. It arrives with server hardware, cabling and plumbing installed and tested, and only needs to be plugged in and linked to similar units, NVIDIA said.
Nscale has not commented on Huang's remarks in the Bloomberg report, and the report does not say which sites are delayed or by how long. Nscale's IPO timing and final valuation are also unconfirmed. Whether NVIDIA's pre-integrated pods shorten neocloud build times in practice will show up in the next Nscale site announcements.
