Vantage said on October 21 that it has secured more than 1 GW of manufacturing capacity for Heron Link, the solid-state transformer from Heron Power Electronics, for use across its hyperscale data center campuses, according to the companies' joint Business Wire release.
Heron Link converts medium-voltage grid power directly to 800 VDC and includes integrated energy storage. The companies say that removes conversion stages between the grid and the rack and targets efficiency above 98.5% from medium voltage to 800 VDC. They also say it needs less equipment, floor space, materials and labor than conventional 480 VAC designs, and that the integrated storage can buffer dynamic AI loads. Heron describes itself as a participant in NVIDIA's 800 VDC MGX ecosystem and says it designs and manufactures its products in California.
