Sydney, Australia, October 20 — Akaysha Energy, the BlackRock-backed battery developer, refinanced the project debt on four Australian battery energy storage system (BESS) assets into a single AU$1.75 billion (US$1.22 billion) portfolio facility backed by 11 banks.
The deal covers three operating batteries, Brendale, Orana and Ulinda Park, plus Elaine, which is under construction. Akaysha says it also creates a financing platform for a pipeline of about 6GW/25GWh across Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM), the grid serving the eastern and southern states.
The Technical Details
The package has three term facilities of five, seven and 10 years, plus revolving liquidity and contingent instrument lines. Akaysha did not disclose the split or the pricing.
Lenders are ANZ, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, BNP Paribas, Bank of China, CIBC, Deutsche Bank, DNB, ING, Mizuho, MUFG and Rabobank. The 850MW/1,680MWh Waratah Super Battery, which reached final commercial operation in September, is not part of the refinancing.
