Samsung SDI's third U.S. lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery line for energy storage has started to take equipment orders, with South Korean supplier MOT receiving a purchase order on October 21 for battery assembly equipment, according to The Elec. The contract is worth 10.1 billion won and runs through April 20, 2027.

The line sits at StarPlus Energy, Samsung SDI's joint venture with Stellantis. The Elec reports that Samsung SDI plans to run three of the plant's four lines on LFP cells for energy storage systems. The first line starts this month and will produce cells for Samsung SDI's containerized Samsung Battery Box 2.0. The second line will make batteries for a North American electric vehicle maker, identified only as "T," from the first half of 2027. The third line is expected to supply a global ESS system integrator that the report does not name.
