CATL Heavy-Truck Swap System Pairs 432-513 kWh Pack With 77 kWh Reserve
CATL's new 1+X truck battery system combines a swappable 432 or 513 kWh main pack with a fixed 77 kWh range extender, with 13,000 initial units from 14 partners, electrive reported.

CATL has presented a heavy-truck battery system that pairs a swappable main pack of 432 or 513 kWh with a fixed 77 kWh range-extender battery, according to electrive, which reported the Beijing presentation on 21 October 2026. Total system capacity comes to 509 kWh or 590 kWh.

A 77 kWh fixed reserve lifts the swap pack to 509 kWh or 590 kWh of total capacity.

The main battery sits in the underbody and CATL plans to offer it through a leasing model. The 260# block, at 432 kWh, is for trucks with a 3.8 m wheelbase; the 300# block, at 513 kWh, is for 4.2 m wheelbases. The 77 kWh battery behind the cab acts as a reserve. CATL says the arrangement raises usable depth of discharge from about 70% to more than 95%, so a driver can reach a swap station at roughly 5% state of charge while power switches to the reserve battery within milliseconds. The design is called 1+X, with a standardized main battery and an individually configurable range extender.
