Vyoma.AI Breaks Ground on 52 MW Chennai Data Center Beside 30 MW Site
L&T's Vyoma.AI began building a 52 MW liquid-cooled AI data center in Chennai on Oct. 28, next to a 30 MW facility already running, but gave no cost, tenant or completion date.

Vyoma.AI, the AI cloud and hyperscale data center business of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), held a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 28 for a 52 MW AI-ready data center in Chennai, India, according to the company's release as carried by Indian business press.

The 52 MW building is separate from the 30 MW facility already running on the campus, according to the company's release.

The building will sit on L&T's planned AI Factory campus in the city, which the company describes as a gigawatt-scale AI hub. The campus already has an operational 30 MW facility running AI compute clusters, and Vyoma.AI says it has 150 MVA of power infrastructure readiness. The new hall is designed for direct-to-chip liquid cooling, with renewable energy and energy-efficient systems added to the design. Prashant Chiranjive Jain, Vyoma.AI's managing director, called the start of work a step for India's digital infrastructure.
What the 52 MW and 30 MW figures cover
The two megawatt numbers in the announcement are separate facilities. The 52 MW building is the new project; the 30 MW facility is the one already operating on the campus. Together they come to 82 MW of named capacity, a sum Voltgrid has calculated, not a figure the company states. The release does not say whether 52 MW means critical IT load or utility power, and it does not break the 30 MW into IT and facility load.
The power figure for the campus is quoted in a different unit. 150 MVA is apparent power, not megawatts, so it cannot be set against the 52 MW and 30 MW numbers without the power factor and the load profile, which the company has not given. What the figure does indicate is that the site has been prepared for more load than the one operating facility draws.
Customers and the wider India target
Vyoma.AI says the facility is aimed at hyperscalers, neocloud providers and AI companies. Neoclouds are GPU-focused cloud operators that rent capacity to AI developers. The company offers sovereign cloud services, GPU-as-a-Service and hyperscale colocation, according to a report from Analytics India Magazine.
The Chennai project is part of a national roadmap. Vyoma.AI is targeting more than 250 MW of data center capacity across India. That 250 MW goal covers the whole country, not the Chennai campus, and the sources read do not state how much of it is built today.
The city is becoming a crowded AI-compute market. Voltgrid reported earlier on Vultr's plan for a 20 MW AMD MI355X cluster in Chennai, and on how Neysa picked an STT GDC site in Noida for up to 9,000 GPUs, a sign that AI capacity in India is being added in the south and the north at once.
What is not confirmed yet
Vyoma.AI did not disclose the investment for the 52 MW facility or when it expects to finish it, as Businessworld noted. The company has not named a tenant for the new building, and it has not said how the renewable energy will be supplied, whether through on-site generation or power purchase contracts. Until a completion date and a grid connection schedule are published, the 52 MW is a construction start, not capacity that customers can book.
