Talen Energy Corporation (NASDAQ: TLN) reported third-quarter 2026 earnings on Nov. 3, 2026, with Adjusted EBITDA of $669 million and Adjusted Free Cash Flow of $433 million, and introduced 2027 guidance of $2,500 million to $2,850 million in Adjusted EBITDA.

Talen's Adjusted EBITDA was $669 million in Q3 2026, against $363 million in Q3 2025.

The independent power producer said in its earnings release that GAAP net income attributable to stockholders was $138 million, down from $207 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA rose from $363 million in the third quarter of 2025. Talen attributed the $306 million increase mainly to the contribution of acquired generation facilities, higher settled power prices and generation volumes net of realized hedges, and higher capacity revenues. The GAAP decline came from unrealized mark-to-market losses on commodity derivatives and higher interest expense on acquisition financings.
Output more than doubled. Total generation was 23.9 TWh against 11.1 TWh a year earlier, and the capacity factor was 75.4% against 56.6%. Talen noted that volumes from acquired facilities count only for the periods it owned them. For the nine months, Adjusted EBITDA was $1,516 million and Adjusted Free Cash Flow $995 million.
Guidance for 2026 and 2027
Talen reaffirmed the midpoint of its 2026 guidance and narrowed the ranges to $2,050 million to $2,200 million for Adjusted EBITDA and $1,225 million to $1,325 million for Adjusted Free Cash Flow. In its second-quarter release on Aug. 5, 2026, the company had raised those ranges to $2,025 million to $2,225 million and $1,200 million to $1,350 million. Both midpoints are unchanged at $2,125 million and $1,275 million.
The 2027 Adjusted Free Cash Flow range is $1,500 million to $1,750 million. Talen said the two 2027 ranges represent growth of about 26% and 27% at the midpoints against 2026 guidance, and tied them to PJM market fundamentals and a full year of contributions from recently acquired assets. PJM is the regional grid operator whose capacity and energy markets Talen sells into.
By Voltgrid's arithmetic, nine-month Adjusted EBITDA of $1,516 million leaves $534 million to $684 million to reach the 2026 range in the fourth quarter. Talen does not state a fourth-quarter figure.
Buyback and capacity sale
Talen upsized its share repurchase program from $1.5 billion to $3.0 billion, running through Dec. 31, 2028, and includes a $1.5 billion accelerated share repurchase (ASR). On Oct. 1, 2026, it received and retired about 3.8 million shares, equal to 80% of the ASR value, with final settlement due no later than the first quarter of 2027. In the third quarter it also bought back 600,000 shares for about $204 million outside the ASR.
The ASR was funded by $1.3 billion of net proceeds from a capacity monetization that closed on Oct. 1, 2026, and cash on hand. Talen sold rights to about $1.5 billion of future PJM capacity cash flows for the 2027/2028 and 2028/2029 capacity years. The company said it had about $1.6 billion of liquidity as of Oct. 30, 2026, and it targets net leverage of 3.5 times net debt to Adjusted EBITDA. Including the nuclear production tax credit, it had hedged about 80% of expected October to December 2026 generation, about 70% for 2027 and about 35% for 2028.
What the release does not say
The release does not mention Amazon, Amazon Web Services or the Susquehanna nuclear plant, and it gives no megawatt figure for deliveries under the power purchase agreement. The release describes Talen as owning about 15.5 GW of capacity, including 2.2 GW of nuclear. The terms of that contract are in Voltgrid's Oct. 28 report on the Amazon agreement, which noted that none of the filings it read states how many megawatts flow today.
Talen's earnings call is scheduled for 8 a.m. ET on Nov. 3, 2026, after the release. Any management comment on data center contracting will be added as an update once reported.
