xAI Colossus 2 to Add Gun Range, Spam Sites; Musk Cites 1.2M Chips
Musk says xAI's Colossus 2 will add Gun Range by end of November and Spam in December, about 420,000 GB300 chips in all by his figures; the reports give no megawatt load or permit.

Musk says Colossus 2 should reach around 1.2 million Nvidia Blackwell-generation chips by year-end; the figure is reported and not independently verified.

Elon Musk said in posts on X, reported on Nov. 1, that xAI's Colossus 2 AI complex around Memphis is adding two more sites, called Gun Range and Spam, with Gun Range due to run by the end of November and Spam in December.
Musk wrote that he walked the whole Colossus 2 site around midnight and again in the morning, and that the SpaceX team and contractors were making good progress. Business Insider reported that the Spam site once housed Hormel products and that the local police department once owned the Gun Range land. Business Insider noted that xAI was acquired by SpaceX. Musk's posts are the only source for the timeline; no filing or city record for either site has been published.

Musk's figures put Gun Range, configured for training, slightly above Spam, configured for inference; neither is independently verified.

DeSoto County News, citing Action News 5 and the tech site TeslaNorth, reported that Musk described Gun Range as a copy of the company's existing "Macroharder" and "Minihard" clusters, with roughly 220,000 Nvidia GB300 chips set up for training AI models. Musk said Spam would hold about 200,000 GB300 chips configured for inference, which he said needs simpler networking and less than half the fiber. He also said Colossus 2 should reach around 1.2 million Nvidia Blackwell-generation chips by the end of the year. DeSoto County News noted that Musk gave no street addresses and that the figures have not been independently verified.
Why the chip counts matter for power
Musk gave no megawatt figure for either site, and none of the reports states one. The chip counts are therefore the only scale measure available, and they are Musk's own: about 220,000 GB300 chips at Gun Range plus about 200,000 at Spam makes roughly 420,000 across the two new sites. How much power they would draw from the grid and the on-site turbines around Memphis has not been disclosed.
Where Colossus 2 sits now
WREG reported that SpaceX is the parent of SpaceXAI, which it described as running or building at least four data centers in Memphis and Southaven, Mississippi. The original Colossus cluster opened in South Memphis at a former Electrolux plant in 2024, according to WREG, and was followed by expansion into Whitehaven and Southaven. Voltgrid News also covered SpaceXAI's Mississippi stormwater claim at Southaven sites. DeSoto County News said the Southaven operation includes a power plant on Stanton Road whose gas turbines supply the data centers across the state line in Memphis.
That turbine plant is the subject of ongoing litigation. A US district judge on Oct. 30 denied the motion to dismiss the NAACP's Clean Air Act suit, as Voltgrid reported, and the suit alleges unpermitted methane gas turbines power Colossus 2. DeSoto County News said the company, through its parent MZX Tech, has bought homes near the plant, and we covered xAI's reported targeting of 418 Southaven homes earlier.
Local rules and what is not confirmed yet
Memphis City Council recently passed a 135-day pause on new data centers after rejecting a one-year moratorium, according to WREG. None of the reports says whether the pause applies to the Gun Range or Spam sites.
Still unconfirmed: the sites' addresses and permits, their power supply and megawatt load, and whether the end-of-November and December dates hold. The dates and chip counts are Musk's projections, and the accounts differ on the day of his post, so we report only that it was covered on Nov. 1.
